Fuss-free Journaling

Three years before, I made a mistake of coming back the periodicals of my 8th grade scholars by just putting them on the teacher's table with the thought that they will just get their own periodicals. The next day, a parent deplored that her female child had been obtaining death risks through Facebook because her classmates read her periodical! It turned out that she's missing the day I returned their notebooks, so her classmates took turns in reading her entries which were created of not-so unseeing juicy items about her fellow students.
The parent then advanced to inquiry my rationale for letting my students hold periodicals since most of them don't write anyhow.
factual, not all of my scholars passed their journals as required of them every week but I accept that three years before I was an inexperienced educator. I had every good aim, though of letting my scholars compose down their personal thoughts in a notebook. First, I understand that it would boost their writing prowess and second, their journals will assist as their flexibility wall; a personal sheet where they can rant all they want.
Since then, I have learned my message. These days I now personally come back the periodicals to my scholars. And if they're missing I make certain that I don't just leave their notebooks in the classroom. I've also since warned the categories I'm educating about the hazards of backbiting their classmates. Here are also some other periodical composing courses that I've learned these past years.
1) LET THEM select A TOPIC
scholars would always find an excuse that they don't know what to compose, so teachers should give journaling prompts or topics. usually, in one week I would give four topics. They can variety from generic ones (love, nourishment, music) to more exact ones (how I got this scar on my impertinence or my mom's home-baked cookies). Every week, we furthermore have an "Acta Diurna" entry which is Latin for daily events. For this theme, they can choose the most important, dull, memorable day for the week and compose about it. I sometimes propose a topic and if they don't like it, they can propose another one. I furthermore let them compose a "Freedom Entry" where they are free to compose anything they would like to compose.
2) compose COMMENTS
scholars gaze ahead to reading comments about their applications. Some would even inquire for the teacher's advice and depart a space or carton for it. More than any thing else, remarks make them seem that what they've been writing are also worth reading. Comments assist as a teacher's feedbacks.
3) FEATURE A periodical
When I find a periodical that's been worked really hard and when I read heartwarming entries, I generally feature them in class by telling the students that so-and-so has done such a remarkable job in writing about his parents or his pet. This generally boosts the proprietor of the periodical to extend composing.
4) boost ARTWORKS
Students like to doodle and what better location for them to doodle than their journals. I one time inquired them to have an art application where they can draw whatever they want to draw. I was surprised with their outstanding drawings and paintings. It would also be exciting if you turn this application into an art competition. scholars give extra effort if they understand there's a prize at stake.
5) CHANGE VENUES
By journals, we right away believe of composition notebooks but going cyber through weblogging is also one way for the students to get propelled up in periodical composing. What more, it permits them to read their classmates' work and vice-versa (without being endangered to death), pursue a blog or gain a book book book book book reader, and even publish their work through online magazines.
